CHURCH HISTORY
Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church was organized September 12, 1950, under the leadership of Rev. Hezekiah King Griffin, Jr. Reverend Griffin and a group of forty-three (43) founding members converted a vacant Safeway grocery warehouse on the corner of 28th Avenue and South Jackson Street into a humble place of worship. This transformed warehouse remains the cornerstone of today’s expanded church building.

The faith and vision of this original group of members established a foundation for Tabernacle’s legacy, serving the greater Seattle community for the last 60 years. The church offers transitional housing, a homeless feeding program, drug and alcohol outreach and a variety of other service ministries. Tabernacle has a strong commitment to missions and supports foreign mission work in Belize and Kenya. All of these outreach efforts are grounded in Tabernacle’s commitment to share the love of Christ with the world.

In its 60 year history, Tabernacle has been led by only five Pastors. For the last 27 years Rev. Robert L. Manaway, Sr. and Evangelist Jessica P. Manaway have dutifully shepherded Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. The enrolled membership stands at more than 3,500 with an active 1,700 members sustaining two Sunday morning worship services. Each week the congregation of members and visitors enjoy powerful preaching of God’s Word, jubilant praise and Tabernacle’s renowned music ministry.
